OUR HISTORY
Restoring a Piece of Texas' History
Bellville has a true treasure in the Turnverein Pavilion Gut Heil (good health). Queen of many dance halls that enliven the countryside of Austin County, the Turnverein was the first of several designed and built by Joachim Hintz. This innovative 12-sided wood-frame hall is 80 feet in diameter with elaborate, elegant roof supports with precision joinery. As the first round dancehall in Texas, the Turnverein is the most revered historic architectural gem because it was the first of it's kind and influenced the design of many other buildings across Texas.

Let there be dancing...
and singing...
and above all,
let there be fellowship!
The Bellville Turnverein was a center of activity from the moment it opened its doors in 1897, and has become a historical architectural icon today and gained it's status as a Texas Historical Marker in 1996. Generations of our community have gathered & celebrated in this treasured hall; family reunions, weddings, birthdays, dances, meetings, and political events. Thanks to the Bellville Turnverein Pavilion Restoration Project, the hall will provide these beloved events for another 100 years.
